Thief: maister unlocks, skills and dagger build
Thief is a starting dagger vocation for the Arisen and pawns. Swift Step is its basic evasive action; Formless Feint is a separate maister skill that consumes stamina while active.
Two maisters, two rewards
| Where | NPC and reward |
|---|---|
| Old Noble Manor, Nameless Village | Flaude gives Legend's Opus, teaching Blades of the Pyre. |
| Nameless Village Depths | Srail gives Pilferer's Handbook, teaching Formless Feint. |
| Vocation availability | Thief is available from creation; neither scroll is required to equip daggers. |
How to reach the real Thief maister
Follow The Nameless Village quest east of Vernworth. Speak to Flaude in the manor for his scroll, but do not stop there. Find the entrance behind the manor and complete the obstacle course in the Nameless Village Depths.
Speak to Srail at the end and exhaust his dialogue for Pilferer's Handbook. Consume both scrolls to learn their skills. Neither requires the expansion main story. Blades of the Pyre burns the user too, so it is not a safe substitute for ordinary Enkindled Blades.
Suggested exploration and boss build
| Skill | Use |
|---|---|
| Helm Splitter / Skull Splitter | A spinning aerial attack for exposed weak points. |
| Ensnare / Implicate | Pull smaller or flying targets and exploit unbalanced monsters. |
| Gut and Run / Draw and Quarter | Strike a weak point while clinging, then disengage. |
| Pilfer / Plunder | Steal from vulnerable targets; large monsters must be downed. |
| Concussive Step / Concussive Leap | Reposition with a blast, including while airborne. |
| Formless Feint | Defensive evasion with stamina drain; use Smoke Screen before obtaining it. |
Stamina, climbing and longer jumps
Use Swift Step against predictable attacks rather than leaving every defense to Formless Feint. Capcom increased Feint stamina consumption on September 2, 2026. A well-timed vocation action during Feint can temporarily stop the continuous drain, with perfect timing reducing weapon-skill stamina consumption. Do not assume permanent free invulnerability.
Climb only when a weak point is worth the stamina risk. Draw and Quarter provides an attacking exit. A Mage handles recovery while a Fighter or Warrior creates chances to reach the monster from behind.
Footpad provides a wall kick and Concussive Leap adds airborne movement. Combine them only with a safe landing in sight: neither guarantees a specific jump distance or makes lethal falls safe. Vigor helps clinging stamina; Thew helps carry loot without slipping into a heavier encumbrance tier.
Questions
Who teaches Formless Feint?
Srail in the Nameless Village Depths gives Pilferer's Handbook. Flaude's Legend's Opus teaches Blades of the Pyre instead.
How can a Thief jump farther?
Use Footpad for a wall kick and Concussive Step or Concussive Leap for airborne movement. These are situational traversal tools, not a verified longest-jump record.
