Worth it in 2026

Dragon's Dogma 2 is a better fit for players seeking vocation-based action and an AI pawn party than for players seeking official co-op. This source-based buying assessment separates the free updates from the paid expansion; it does not claim a hands-on playthrough or new benchmark.

Who the game suits

PriorityBuying assessment
Action combat with different party rolesA good match on paper: choose a vocation and configure an AI pawn party rather than control a traditional full party.
Live multiplayer with friendsNot an official feature. Pawn sharing is asynchronous; a third-party co-op alpha is not a supported multiplayer edition.
Exploration and optional questsAllow more time than a story-only run. Use the length guide rather than treating a main-story estimate as the whole game.
Reliable performance on a particular PCRead the current requirements and test your own settings; added upscalers do not guarantee a frame rate on every system.
More content after finishing the original campaignEvaluate Dark Arisen separately for Norgan, Lost Rites and relic hunting.

What changed without buying DLC

The September 2, 2026 update expanded equipped weapon skills from four to six and added three adventure save slots, each holding Autosave, Interim Save and Last Inn Rest Save. Loading an inn save no longer deletes the other two save types.

The October 9 update added Hard Mode, a restart-with-data-carried-over feature and the Orienteer pawn specialization. Steam also received FSR 3 Frame Generation and DLSS Super Resolution 4.5 changes. The October 16 patch fixes specific combat, pawn and interface bugs; it is not a promise that every performance or crash issue is resolved.

What to buy

On October 17, 2026, Steam US lists the base game at $39.99 and the expansion at $29.99. New buyers wanting both should compare the $49.99 complete package first: it saves $19.99 against buying those two products separately at $69.98. Existing base-game owners should compare the $29.99 expansion rather than repurchase a complete edition automatically.

Try the free Character Creator & Storage tool if character design is important to you, but do not mistake that tool for a campaign demo or a performance benchmark. For a lower-commitment choice, buying only the base game leaves the free update systems available without paying for Norgan.

Questions

Is it too hard?

Hard Mode is optional, not the default. Casual Mode is also documented in CAPCOM's update history, but some achievements cannot be unlocked in that mode. Check your completion goals before changing modes.

What is the Steam review label right now?

Review labels change by date, language and recent versus lifetime reviews. Use the current Steam product page for that live label; this assessment does not republish a cached percentage as today's score.
